Mathematics
What is taught and when?
In maths, we follow White Rose. Here is what is taught in each year group:
Maths in Early Years Foundation Stage
Addition and Subtraction Calculation Policy
Multiplication and Division Calculation Policy
Mastering Number Programme
Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 take part in a daily 15 minutes programme. The outcome of this programme is that all children will develop good number sense and have automaticity in additive facts.
You can see the what is covered in the overviews below:
Our theme was ‘It’s Time for Maths’. Each class did a special lesson on time linked to the National Curriculum.
Knowing how to tell time is a very important skill. It can help you determine whether you’re running late or whether you have plenty of time to spare. You can achieve whatever you want if you manage your time properly. Shockingly, one in seven people in the UK can only tell the time using a DIGITAL watch.
At the end of the week, we had a special maths assembly where each class performed a song linked to their lesson. The themes throughout the school were…
Reception – To know and order the days of the week.
Year 1 – To know and order the months of the year.
Year 2 – Recap on ‘o’clock’ and ‘half past’ times and introduce ‘quarter past’ and ‘quarter to times’.
Year 3 – To know the roman numerals up to 12.
Yea 4 – To know hours, minutes and seconds.
Year 5 – To convert analogue to digital times.
Year 6 – To solve time problems.
Here is a little taster of what we got up to…
Maths Trips 2023-2024
This year, each class is going on a trip in the local area linked to maths. Here were Year 1 last year, buying an item using coins up to the value of £1.
